Summer Share Information May 19th 2021

Posted by on May 20, 2021 in Uncategorized

Hello members!

It’s the time that many of you have been anxious for, summer shares begin next week!

We seem to be over the thirty something degree night time temperatures that have kept crops growing slowly. We have been picking asparagus daily now for the last week and we do have lots of greens in the high tunnel. Just a reminder that spring shares start out light and will grow in variety and volume as the weather changes. Before long you’ll be saying “will I be able to eat all this?”

Hopefully the last year has encouraged more “home cooking” and you’ll be glad for some freshness to work with. Please find the summer share information below; it will also be attached to print out to keep on hand for reference.

All newsletters are archived on our website for reference.

Please feel free to email if you have any questions but please read through the information first.

We look forward to seeing your smiling faces this year; perhaps without a mask…

See you soon! Ben & Jane

Biweekly produce members will receive the newsletter on Monday of their distribution week only. Please contact us if you have a weekly fruit share and would like the newsletter weekly.
The newsletter contains CSA information updates, farm news, produce list with prep, storage tips, and recipes. Please use the newsletter to guide you through the season. Newsletters are archived on the website for reference and/or recipes. Most questions can be answered if you refer to the information provided in the newsletter or from the website. Website:  www.promisedlandcsa.com for questions regarding distribution sites or newsletters.

We welcome members to visit; if you would like to come out to the farm please call or email first so we know to expect you. We do not live at the 2112 County Line Rd. Alden address, so please do not go to the house for assistance. We do host a year-end field tour and potluck and also u-pick events for members when there is surplus. We will notify you of these events throughout the season in the newsletters.

SHARE INFORMATION
Produce shares are packed in waxed boxes the morning of distribution. These boxes are to be returned weekly or biweekly respectively. Each member is allocated two boxes for the season. Do not use them for any other purpose except your produce. Please handle them gently; the top “hinges” open. Ask your site host for a demonstration if needed. Some members transfer their produce to an insulated bag at distribution to keep their produce cool until it gets home and into the fridge. If your share is left in a hot car or in the box on the kitchen counter it will degrade quickly. We carefully harvest, chill and pack your produce to deliver the best quality possible. Your handling after pickup can make all the difference between great or fair produce.

Distribution is at your chosen distribution site unless other arrangements are made.
If needed, changes must be requested 48 hours prior. We are unable to return email or phone calls for changes on distribution mornings; we are busy packing shares and trucks are loaded early.

There is a sign out sheet at your distribution site; please be diligent to cross off your name each week when you pick up your share. If you have a substitute person pick up your share, please let them know that also! It is your responsibility to pick up your share each week at distribution. Your share is delivered and available on the day and during the hours listed for the site you chose. There is only the exact number of shares packed; we do not have any “extras” at the farm if you miss your pickup. Any unclaimed shares will be donated unless there is prompt follow-up. Specific site details follow. If you are unable to make your distribution during the scheduled time it is necessary to follow-up with your site host that evening to make other arrangements. We will be sending out host site contact information for Depew, Lancaster, East Amherst and Leicester members separately. Please see details for each site. Save this information for reference for any needed changes.
If you call us, we will refer you to your host person; they will help you get your share.
